The Whirlpool base grille filters are obviously used in the Whirlpool branded fridges, but they are also sometimes seen in rebadged appliances, such as Smeg side by sides and occasionally in other Whirlpool group product ranges (i.e. those made by Amana or Maytag).

If your cartridge fits in the base grille, i.e. beneath the doors at the -front- of the fridge then this is the correct filter type - There are several cartridges available for these products, however, these are all physically the same, it's just the level of filtration performance changes depending on the composition of the internal media.

This compatible has been designed to serve as a direct replacement for the regular 4396508, which is the most popular of the Whirlpool filters and the only one currently being supplied by Whirlpool UK. It is essentially a taste and odour filter, designed to remove chlorine, sediment, dissolved organics etc via carbon media, working in exactly the same way as the original.

This cartridge has a life of 6 months, as per the original.
